Bridging the Gap in Sankhuwasabha: 120 Lives Transformed

Women in Sankhuwasabha, making menstrual hygiene product organized by Conscious Connections Nepal

CCN partnered with the Lhomi Women Welfare Forum in Khandbari, Sankhuwasabha, to conduct a 2-day women’s health training focused on menstrual hygiene, reproductive health, social norms, and reusable pad-making. Led by local nurse Samjhana Lhomi, the program brought together 120 women from diverse ethnic and religious backgrounds, creating a space for open discussion and practical learning.

Challenges:

In remote regions like Khandbari, menstruation is heavily restricted by myths and shame. Women face isolation from kitchens and community life, alongside a lack of affordable products.

Our Action:

CCN partnered with the Lhomi Women Welfare Forum for a dynamic, inclusive 2-day workshop. Led by local nurse Samjhana Lhomi, 120 women from 13 distinct ethnic and religious backgrounds came together to openly discuss reproductive health and master the craft of reusable pad-making.

The lasting Impact:

  • 120 women walked away with complete, self-made hygiene kits.

  •  Local reliance on expensive, imported commercial pads was drastically reduced.

  • Adolescent girls gained a safe space to break generational silence surrounding their bodies.
