Bringing Health Skills to Nuchet: 63 Women and Girls Take the Lead

Menstrual Hygiene Training at Nuwakot, Nepal

CCN organized a 2-day Menstrual Health and Hygiene Management (MHM) and First Aid Training in Nuchet, Nuwakot, in partnership with local community members and Alpha Triyog Mandali Church. Facilitated by Pema, a Certified Medical Technician, and Yogendra Tamang, the training brought together 63 women and girls from Nuchet, Bairamrang, and Dara Thok. As the first training of its kind in the village, it created a safe space to openly discuss menstrual and reproductive health, learn reusable pad-making, and build practical first aid skills.

Challenges:

In Nuchet and surrounding villages, limited access to health education and the distance to health facilities make it harder for women and girls to access reliable health information and respond to emergencies. Menstruation is also not always easy to discuss openly.

Our Action:

CCN brought women and girls together for a practical 2-day workshop covering menstrual and reproductive health, contraception, nutrition, menstrual hygiene, social norms, and menstrual taboos. Participants also learned to make reusable cloth pads and received menstrual hygiene kits with cloth pads, underwear, soap, and other essentials.

The training also introduced basic first aid skills for burns, fainting, nosebleeds, sprains, and other common injuries. Participants practiced making simple stretchers and slings using materials available at home. Seven women from the three villages were selected as community leaders to continue sharing health knowledge and awareness in their communities.

The lasting Impact:

  • 63 women and girls gained practical knowledge on menstrual, reproductive, and general health.

  • Participants learned to make reusable pads and received complete menstrual hygiene kits.

  • Seven women were selected to continue menstrual health awareness in their communities.

  • Participants gained practical first aid skills that can be used before reaching a health facility.

  • Women and girls gained a safe space to openly discuss menstruation and reproductive health.
