Reaching Remote Communities in Mustang: 399 Women and Girls Reached

In Upper Mustang, Conscious Connections Nepal (CCN) partnered with Drokpo Nepal to provide menstrual health education and reusable pad-making training across Lo-Ghekar Damodarkunda and Lo-Manthang Rural Municipalities. The program reached women and girls in remote mountain communities, including nuns from local nunneries, where distance, weather, and difficult travel routes can make access to menstrual health information and hygiene products challenging.
Challenges:
In Upper Mustang, women and girls often have limited access to menstrual health education and affordable hygiene products due to the remoteness of their communities and difficult travel conditions. Seasonal weather and long distances can make it even harder to access basic health information and supplies.
Our Action:
CCN conducted menstrual health orientation and reusable pad-making training in 14 villages and 2 nunneries. Participants learned about menstrual hygiene, safe practices, myths and misconceptions, and how to make and care for reusable cloth pads. The program also included meetings with local leaders to bring menstrual health into community-level discussions and monitoring visits to better understand local needs.
The lasting Impact:
-
399 women and girls received menstrual health and reusable pad-making training.
-
400 hygiene kits were distributed to women and girls in Mustang.
-
Women and girls gained practical skills to make and use reusable pads.
-
Participants gained greater knowledge and confidence to manage menstruation safely and with dignity.
-
Local leaders were engaged in conversations around menstrual health and hygiene.
