Creating Livelihood Opportunities for Transgender Women in Bara: 40 Women Trained

In Kalaiya Municipality, Bara, Conscious Connections Nepal (CCN) and Giving Face organized a 10-day makeup training for transgender women. Led by transgender makeup artist Neelam Poudel, the training provided practical beauty skills while creating a space for participants to build confidence, explore livelihood opportunities, and connect with others from their community.
Challenges:
Transgender women often face discrimination and exclusion from education, employment, and community life. These barriers can limit access to stable income and make it difficult to build independent livelihoods, especially outside major cities.
Our Action:
CCN and Giving Face provided hands-on makeup training to 40 transgender women, covering practical makeup and beauty skills that can support self-employment or future work. Participants received certificates, makeup kits, and remaining training materials so they could continue practicing after the program. The program also included interviews and discussions with members of the transgender community to better understand their experiences, challenges, and aspirations.
The lasting Impact:
-
40 transgender women completed and received certificates for the makeup training.
-
Participants gained practical skills that can support future livelihood opportunities.
-
Makeup kits and materials were provided to help participants continue practicing and working.
-
Participants gained greater confidence in their skills and abilities.
-
Community experiences and challenges were documented to help inform future programs.
